YMMV, and IANAL, but:

Technically, if it's a new and unused good whose purchase price
exceeds AUD$900, you have to declare it at the border and pay 10% GST
+ import duty on the goods too, unless you can demonstrate an
intention to bring the camera back home with you when you finish your
trip. This may be difficult if the receipt for the goods has Arjen's
name on it.

This is especially so if you're carrying the stuff as hand luggage,
since customs officers will be more likely to see it, even if you use
automated entry processing (SmartGate)

Not declaring dutiable goods is a crime which is punishable by an
on-the-spot fine, and you can't enter the country if you can't pay the
fine, and you can't carry the goods in if you can't pay the duties +
taxes.

So basically, It's worth making sure you have the means to pay the
GST+duty and the spare time (1-2 hours on arrival) to go through the
longer customs processing lines on arrival.
