Just to follow up on this - the badge preview now defaults to showing you a
PNG, so that it’s as close as I can make it to how the real badge will
look, without being dependent on fonts on your machine.

The font for emoji is currently TwemojI v2.4, as rendered into a .ttf via
the tooling at https://github.com/eosrei/twemoji-color-font. However, as
that page notes, the font “will currently only show color emoji in Firefox,
Thunderbird, Photoshop CC 2017, and Windows Edge V38.14393+”. As our
badge-rendering/print pipeline doesn’t involve any of those, they’re coming
out black-and-white (and would be even if we were printing in colour, as
far as I can tell)
